Dolores SERNA, b. 1842, Mexico d. 17 Mar 1891, Tombstone, Cochise County, Arizona (Age 49 years)
Marriage
4 Sep 1874
Yuma, Yuma County, Arizona
Type: Church
The following information is from correspondence Immaculate Conception Church regarding their marriage.
They were married at Immaculate Concepcion Church located in Yuma, Arizona.
Their names were recorded as: Augustin George BUTINER
Dolores CERNA
Their parents were recorded as: Agustin BUTINER & Bertran BUTINER
Jose Maria CERNA and Rafaela AMAVISCA
The letter was signed by Priscilla Arviso, Secretary
NOTED: The spelling of both Agustin & Dolores' last names do not agree with other primary documents. Since Adolph (Agustin) consistently used the last name BUTTNER, I believe this is the correct spelling.
Re: CERNA. Probably a mistake on the part of the person registering their marriage as CERNA would not be spelled with a "C", but rather an "S" in Spanish. Again, human error.
What is interesting is that it seems neither Adolph or Dolores corrected their marriage document. A marriage certificate is considered a primary document used throughout one's life to verify an important legal date, one's marriage date.
It could be that in 1874 in Arizona Territory it was not deemed as important a document as in 2024.
