Her mother Carlota, my grandmother, had the weirdest thing about her children's names.
For example, she named my Aunt Angie, Gregoria Candida. It's on her Arizona birth certificate. And yet, she did not call her by that name.
My mother, Lydia, being the oldest, doesn't even remember when they didn't call her Angela. Aunt Angie doesn't recall ever being called anything but Angela or Angie or Angelita.
Family myth has it that my grandmother considered her, 'a little angel', hence Angelita.
My Aunt was born in 1930 in a VERY small {in it' heyday population was 4,000}, mostly Mexican mining town of Globe, Arizona. People didn't ask many questions back then. She was known as Angela and Angela it was.
My Aunt was quite pleased that she was not known by her birth name. She didn't care for it. She once asked me, "Can you imagine me being called Aunt Candy?"
Her name was never legally changed to Angela. She used it in school, church, for work as an actress, when she married 3 different times, divorced.....she was Angela Robles.

They did not marry. Carlota had been married twice before to Bartolo Ybarra and Jose Maria Noriega. Divorce papers have not been found for either of the marriages.
Rafael & Carlota's affair began in the latter 1920's. In 1928 Gustavo Robles was born. Carlota called him, "Ernest/Ernie." In 1930 they had a daughter named Candida Gregoria who Carlota called, "Angela". Neither of the children were ever known by their legal birth names. And they did not share the Granado last name legally.
